Authorities are asking for information regarding an 8-year-old San Bernardino boy who was killed by an illegal fireworks display on July 4.

According to San Bernardino Police Department Sergeant John Echeverria told KNX that the incident occurred during an unofficial block party in the 500 block of south San Carlo Avenue.

“There was a possible malfunction with one of the fireworks that was discharged through a mortar-style tube,” Echeverria said.

The boy was hit in the upper body. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

No arrests have been made in the case, but Echeverria said it's possible once detectives talk to more people.
