HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KNX) — Authorities on Thursday were investigating another oil sheen spotted off the coast of Huntington Beach. The sheen was reported Wednesday roughly a mile offshore from Bolsa Chica State Beach, according to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The source of the sheen had not yet been identified, but no immediate contamination was reported on the shoreline.

According to fish and wildlife authorities, “protective strategies” were nevertheless implemented as a precaution Wednesday night through Thursday morning at sensitive environmental sites, including Talbert Marsh, the Bolsa Chica wetlands, Newport Slough, and the Santa Ana River.

Last week, authorities responded to a report of another oil sheen in the same area, about two miles off the coast of Bolsa Chica. Investigators concluded that sheen was not likely the result of a pipeline leak like the one that resulted in thousands of gallons of oil dumped into the waters off the O.C. coast in early October.
