SANTA MONICA (CNS) - A juvenile boy was taken to a hospital Monday in stable condition after accidentally shooting himself in Santa Monica, authorities said.

The Santa Monica Police Department responded to the 800 block of Second Street about 2:20 p.m. to a report about a gunshot wound, according to an SMPD spokeswoman.

Officers arrived and located a juvenile boy, whose age was not disclosed, with an apparently self-inflicted accidental gunshot wound to his hand, a spokeswoman said.

It's unclear how the boy obtained the firearm, but police said he was taken to a hospital in stable condition and may need to undergo surgery.

There were no other reported injuries.
