Firefighters were not able to locate a fire, but said they were confronted by a man "brandishing a knife," threatening firefighters.

Huntington Park police were called to the scene. "He was brandishing the knife ... he was acting fairly erratic," L.A. County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Lt. Chris Kusayanagi told KTLA.

Officers reportedly commanded the suspect to drop the knife and deployed non-lethal rounds, at which point the suspect fled on Marbrissa Avenue. Officers relocated the suspect in the 6400 block of Santa Fe Avenue, where they again directed him to drop the weapon and deployed non-lethal rounds. The suspect attempted to flee a third time, after which investigators alleged he "advanced" towards officers, one of which opened fire.

The unidentified male suspect was roughly 30 years old, according to investigators. He died from gunshots wounds at the scene. No officers were injured.

Correction: A previous version of this story reported that the officer involved in the shooting was an L.A. County sheriff's deputy. The officer involved was a Huntington Park police officer.
