Skid Row shelter out of canned goods heading into holiday season, seeks donations

LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The Los Angeles Mission, a homeless shelter serving the Skid Row community, is "currently out of canned food items," according to a post published to Instagram on Thursday. It is asking the public to contribute donations of non-perishable goods heading into the 2021 holiday season.

According to the Mission, food requests have "surged 200%." Needed items include applesauce, beans, canned meats, coffee, Jell-O, oamteal, peanut butter, rice, soups, preserved vegetables and other foodstuffs.

Donors can drop off items at 316 Winston Street in Los Angeles between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. A drive-through drop-off center is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at 351 South Anderson Street.

Donors can also purchase items on Amazon for delivery to the shelter.
