LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger disclosed Tuesday night that she had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the day.

Barger serves residents of the fifth council district — the couty's largest. It includes communities in the Antelope, Crescenta, San Fernando, San Gabriel, and Santa Clarita valleys.

She encouraged residents to get vaccinated against the virus and to minimize time spent out of the home in order to flatten the curve of its spread.

L.A. County has been in the grips of a surge in COVID-19 cases thanks to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant. 21,790 new cases were reported on Tuesday, including 24 new deaths attributable to the virus.
