LOS ANGELES (KNX) - Authorities have announced an arrest in a hit-and-run that severely injured a teenager in Boyle Heights.

The suspect, 29-year-old Erwin Majano of Banning, was taken into custody on Tuesday. He allegedly drove the motorcycle that struck 13-year-old Joshua Mora while he was crossing Whittier Boulevard in Boyle Heights on March 30.

According to the LAPD, the motorcyclist didn’t stop after hitting the teen, whose right leg was severed as a result of the crash.

Mora has since had several surgeries, and a GoFundMe has been created to help his family with expenses.

According to LAPD Detective Daniel Ramirez, Majano was identified through security video from nearby homes and businesses. He was arrested in Banning and charged with felony hit-and-run. Bail was set at $50,000.

“This case was an avoidable case,” Ramirez said. “The elements of a hit-and-run are that you failed to stop, you failed to render aid.”
