Suspect in custody following LAPD chase, crash

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man in a stolen vehicle being chased by Los Angeles police crashed in the Vermont Square area today and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.

The chase began shortly after 1 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Paramedics were sent to the 400 block of West Vernon Avenue about 1:15 p.m. on a report of a "male entrapped in a vehicle ... reportedly following conclusion of (an) LAPD pursuit," according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters freed the man, about 30 years old, and took him to a hospital in "at least serious condition," the LAFD reported. No other injuries were reported.

The name of the suspect was not immediately available for release.

There was no immediate information on what prompted the police pursuit.
