Suspected kidnapper arrested after chase through South L.A., children rescued

LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Two young children were rescued and their suspected kidnapper taken into custody after a chase in the South Los Angeles area Tuesday evening.

L.A. police initiated a pursuit of a white SUV containing the suspect and children, ages one and five, at around 8:20 p.m. through freeways and surface streets.

The suspect then drove to a residential neighborhood in South L.A. and parked in a driveway in the 200 block of East 95th Street. A standoff between the suspect and police ensued.

Over the course of the standoff, the suspect exited and reentered his vehicle several times. LAPD officers advanced, arresting the suspect without incident at approximately 9:05 p.m. Officers also removed the children from the SUV and took them into protective custody.

The identity of the suspect is unknown, as is his relationship to the children.
