An Orange County mother has filed a police report after her daughter was left with a concussion after being punched during a youth basketball game in Garden Grove on Sunday.
The alleged assault, caught on video and posted to mother Alice Ham’s Instagram account, shows another player striking her daughter in what appeared to be the chin and throat, knocking her to the ground.
Ham said her 15-year-old daughter is in concussion protocol and unable to attend school days after the incident.
“There is absolutely no place for something like this in basketball,” Ham wrote in an Instagram caption accompanying the video. She accused the mother of the player who threw the punch of encouraging the violence.
“Go and hit her,” the mother said, according to Ham.
An attorney representing the family of the alleged assailant released a statement, saying the girl and her family were “deeply and sincerely remorseful” for what transpired over the weeknd. “We must keep some perspective and keep in mind that this is a young minor who has made a mistake,” he said.
KNX 1070 is not releasing the identities of either girl involved in the incident, who are both minors.
