LOS ANGELES (KNX) – A Los Angeles Police Sergeant is credited with saving the life of a child.
In a video posted by the department, on Jan. 19, the LAPD Sergeant was approaching Echo Park Avenue when a community member in distress stopped him.
The bodycam footage shows a man holding a child, pleading, “I don’t know what’s wrong! Officer please! She’s—please! I don’t know what’s wrong!”
The Sergeant noticed the child wasn’t breathing and seemed lifeless. He began to perform first aid and discovered a choking hazard in the child’s throat.
“He conducted a finger sweep and back thrust,” the department wrote in a caption for the video. “As a result of his efforts, the unknown choking hazard dislodged and the child regained consciousness.”’
The child was taken by the Los Angeles Fire Department to a nearby children’s hospital and she is in stable condition, police said.
