LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A high school in the Westlake neighborhood of Los Angeles was locked down for several hours Wednesday following the stabbing of a student at Miguel Contreras Learning Complex on Lucas Avenue.
The incident was reported around 2 p.m., according to the Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD). Investigators said just two people were involved in the incident that was reported around 3:20 p.m. Both are students.

"[School] administration is connecting with our investigators in regard to what that was," Sgt. Rudy Perez with LASPD told KNX. "Is this an isolated incident, or could this be a gang related issue in the area? We don’t know at this moment."
Leonardo, a sophomore at the high school told KNX he saw the two boys fighting and was shocked when he saw blood on one of their shirts.
“I wanted to see what happened," he said. "I got closer, I saw a knife in the kid’s hand. He put it away quickly though and they kept fighting and the kid that got stabbed he just kept saying ‘oh you stabbed me, fool!’”
The 17-year-old who was stabbed is said to be in stable condition. He attacker, believed to be around the same age, was taken into custody by LASPD.
Miguel Contreras Learning Complex is a high school serving grades nine through 12 in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
The school lockdown was implemented around 2:30 p.m., impacting parents' ability to pick up their students from school. Shortly after the arrest, LASPD worked with school administrators to coordinate a "modified dismissal" in order to get students safely to their parents.
The lockdown and modified dismissal were both lifted around 3:40 p.m.
