The Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers will meet Friday to discuss reopening contract talks.

In a message to its members on Tuesday night, the WGA said, “The AMPTP, through Carol Lombardini, reached out to the WGA today and requested a meeting this Friday to discuss negotiations. We’ll be back in communication with you sometime after the meeting with further information. As we’ve said before, be wary of rumors. Whenever there is important news to share, you will hear it directly from us.”

Sal Calleros, a WGA member, told KNX News’ Jon Baird he is hopeful but also “circumspect” about the talks possibly leading to a breakthrough.

“It's good to be hopeful but also to be very circumspect because we were so far apart last time that it's very hard to believe that things will be resolved quickly,” he said.

Some of the issues that have been at the forefront of the writers’ strike include the use of artificial intelligence, viewership-based streaming residuals , and minimum staffing in the writer’s rooms.

The writers have been on the picket lines since May 2. They were joined by SAG-AFTRA on July 14. Future talks between SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP have not been announced at this time.
