LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The family of Bruce Willis announced Wednesday that the Die Hard actor has been diagnosed with aphasia, a medical condition that can affect a person’s ability to speak, write, and comprehend verbal and written language.

Aphasia typically occurs following a stroke or significant head injury.

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” his family wrote in a joint statement shared to each of their Instagram accounts.

The actor would be “stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him,” family members wrote.

Willis, 67, has several projects in post-production, including Vendetta and White Elephant. It is unclear what will happen regarding Willis’ projects in pre-production, such as Fortress 3.
