Woman fatally shot in Long Beach; suspect in custody

LONG BEACH (CNS) - A woman was fatally shot in Long Beach today, and a suspect later surrendered to authorities.

The shooting was reported about 7:50 a.m. in the 700 block of East Wardlow Row, near the San Diego (405) Freeway, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was withheld pending notification of her next of kin.

A preliminary investigation into the killing revealed the victim and the suspect knew each other, though detectives were still working to determine a motive, according to the LBPD.

A suspect -- described only as a male -- later turned himself in to authorities in Paramount and was detained by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He was subsequently interviewed by LBPD detectives.

No further details were released.
