
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (KNX) — Video captured by a bystander appeared to show a youth basketball coach attacking a referee courtside during a game Thousand Oaks.
The clip, which has since gone viral, occurred at the Thousand Oaks Sports Academy on Saturday.
The footage showed the as of yet unidentified coach of the Cavs Youth Basketball team put his hands around the referee’s neck and shove him backward. The referee responded by also grabbing the coach’s neck as several bystanders attempted to intervene.
The circumstances that led to the altercation were not clear, though no serious injuries were reported.
The Cavs are a Los Angeles-based youth basketball team with players aged 10 and under. The coach involved was reportedly fired Sunday.
No charges have yet been filed, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
