Time to check your pantry. A massive nationwide recall has been issued for canned meat and poultry products.
Conagra Brands is recalling more than 2.5 million pounds of canned meat and poultry products due to a packaging defect that may cause the products to become contaminated without showing any outward signs of contamination.
The problem was discovered when the company observed spoiled and leaking cans from multiple production dates at its warehouse, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
An investigation determined that the cans may have been damaged in a manner that is not readily apparent to consumers, which may allow foodborne pathogens to enter the cans.
The recall includes a variety of products, the majority of which are Vienna sausages, produced between December 12, 2022, and January 13, 2023. The recalled items are printed with establishment number "P4247" on the cans.
The products were shipped to retail locations nationwide and sold under multiple brand names including Armour Star, Goya, Grace, Great Value, Hargis House, Hereford, Kroger, Prairie Belt and Valrico. The items have various best by dates. See the full product list and product images.
The FSIS says no confirmed reports of adverse reactions or illness have been reported due to consumption of the products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
Consumers who have purchased these products should not to consume them. Instead, thrown them away or return the items to the place of purchase for a refund.
