A Washington state Costco location was the site of a traumatic and tragic death last week when a 4-year-old girl died after choking on food.
The young girl is believed to have been eating one of the Kennewick location’s hot dogs, the Benton County Coroner told KNDU.
The girl was helped by a number of people who tried an AED and CPR until EMS could arrive. Paramedics were able to remove some food from her mouth, then transported her to a nearby medical facility.
However, the girl was pronounced dead later at the hospital.
Asphyxia due to choking was listed as her cause of death, according to KNDU.
Officials said no autopsy would be conducted because the incident was “heavily witnessed” by employees and shoppers and EMS personnel were present.
The girl, whose identity was withheld by authorities, was reportedly only days away from her fifth birthday.
The Kennewick Costco location closed early following the incident but did reopen the following day.
