
Research conducted by OnePoll on behalf of HelloFresh, found that the average American spends $3,000 every single year on unused groceries.
Per SWNS Digital, a survey of 2,000 adults found that on average, we spend $248 on weekly groceries, and of that, we usually end up throwing about $63 of weekly groceries away.
The study also found that on average, we have leftovers to put into their fridges three times a week, but obviously we don’t always get around to eating them.
The study also found the top ten foods hardest to use, and end up being the ones we’re most likely to waste:
1-Lettuce 2-Bananas 3-Milk 4-Apples 5-Bread 6-Avocado 7-Deli items (meat, cheat, prepared foods, etc.) 8-Eggs 9-Meat 10-Carrots
As for how all this food goes to waste, 35% of people admit that forgetting the leftovers are there is one of the top reasons people end up having food waste, along with leftovers not being popular among members of their household (23%).
