(WWJ) – In early April, Patrick Lyoya was shot and killed by a Grand Rapids Police officer, an incident that has sparked worldwide outrage, and what have so far been peaceful protests on the streets of Michigan’s second biggest city.
Police shootings – which account for more than 1,000 American deaths every year – have long been a point of public discussion, oftentimes centering around whether it was “justified.”
Since Lyoya’s death alone, four other Michiganders have been shot and killed by police – in about two weeks. WWJ’s Zach Clark looks at how officer-involved shootings can be minimized in a new edition of The Daily J.
