The Seguin Independent School District student, who was only identified as a boy, with no name, age, or grade provided, fired the gun into the back of one of the bus’s seats.

The bullet’s trajectory was luckily halted by the steel inside the seat.

Authorities say the boy did not threaten any students, teachers or faculty prior to the incident, and that he will be kept off campus while the events surrounding the shooting are investigated.

The incident could have been catastrophic as 37 students were aboard the bus when the gun was fired.

“Oftentimes, children see guns as toys and don't know any better. But unfortunately, we live in a world where tragic events happen on almost a daily basis,” Seguin Independent School District Superintendent Matthew Gutierrez said at a news conference.

Gutierrez appealed to parents to keep any and all firearms in their homes safely locked out of the reach of their children.
