Should Ukraine trust their ultimate fate to the questionable fighting skills of an American billionaire?
The billionaire in question – Tesla founder Elon Musk – seems to think so, at least according to a couple of his most recent posts on Twitter.

In a post that mixed English with Russian, Musk tweeted, “I hereby challenge Владимир Путин [Vladimir Putin] to single combat.
Stakes are Україна [Ukraine].”
Musk followed up with a tweet that tagged the official English language twitter account of Putin, in which he wrote in Russian, “Вы согласны на этот бой?” Translation: “Do you agree to this fight?”
So far, the Russian president has yet to respond officially to Musk’s brash proposal, but Musk’s past comments seem to suggest it would be in Ukraine’s best interest for Putin to decline.
“To be totally frank, I wouldn’t exercise at all if I could,” Musk stated during a 2020 appearance on the Joe Rogan Podcast. “I prefer not to exercise.”
Musk also told Rogan, a UFC commentator, that he dabbled in a number of different martial arts disciplines including Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo, karate and Taekwondo.
In contrast, Putin, a former member of the KGB, has had combat training through the Russian military. And while not much has been made public recently about Putin’s workout regimen, a 2014 profile in Business Insider said Putin’s daily routine at that time included weightlifting and two hours of swimming per day.
For now though, it seems unlikely that the fate of an entire sovereign nation will rely on the outcome of a fistfight between a 69-year-old world leader and a 50-year-old billionaire.
