In order to help restore the role of science in the Environmental Protection Agency, the agency will remove more than 40 outside experts who were appointed by previous President Donald Trump.

They will be removed from two advisory panels, namely the EPA’s Science Advisory Board (SAB) and Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC). The removal of the experts will remove the influence of industries on environmental regulations, according to The Washington Post.

“Resetting these two scientific advisory committees will ensure the agency receives the best possible scientific insight to support our work to protect human health and the environment,” Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan said in a statement to the Post.

The agency is calling for new applications for the two panels, according to the Post.

The Biden administration has said the removals of the outside experts is to re-establish the scientific integrity in the federal government, according to the Post, after the previous president's efforts to sideline climate change and the coronavirus.
