LOS ANGELES (CNS) - An investigation was continuing today into the death of actor Austin Majors, who as a child portrayed the son of Dennis Franz's character on ``NYPD Blue.''
According to the Los Angeles County coroner's office, Majors -- whose real name was Austin Setmajer -- died Saturday at age 27. The coroner's office website states that a cause of death has been deferred ``pending additional investigation.''
In a statement to TMZ, Majors' family said he was ``a loving, artistic, brilliant and kind human being. Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated Salutatorian in High School. He went on to graduate from USC's School of Cinematic Arts with a passion of directing and music producing.
``Austin's younger sister, Kali, says her fondest memories with Austin were growing up on set with him, volunteering at events with `Kids With a Cause,' and backpacking together. Austin was the kind of son, brother, grandson, and nephew that made us proud and we will miss him deeply forever.''
Majors was believed to have been living at a temporary housing facility for the homeless near Chinatown. TMZ reported that his death may have involved a fentanyl overdose.
He appeared in 48 episodes of ``NYPD Blue'' as a child. He also appeared in episodes of shows including ``NCIS,'' ``Desperate Housewives'' and ``How I Met Your Mother.''
