LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A COVID positive test has sidelined Actor Hugh Jackman, forcing Broadway to cancel performances of the upcoming revival of “The Music Man.”
“I just wanted you to hear it from me that I tested positive this morning for COVID,” Jackman said in a video posted to Twitter Tuesday. “My symptoms…I have a cold, a scratchy throat and a bit of a runny nose, but I’m fine.”
Jackman’s diagnosis comes shortly after he paid tribute to Broadway understudy Kathy Voytko, who filled in as Marian Paroo in “The Music Man” after Sutton Foster tested positive for the virus, according to CNN.
With both stars of the show in isolation while they recover from the virus, all show performances are canceled through Sunday.
With new COVID protocols set in place by the CDC, Jackman will likely be required to isolate for just five days unless his symptoms persist.
With both Jackman and Foster out, the production is offering refunds, as both were a major draw for buyers, according to Forbes.
“Jackman is among the most bankable stage stars in the industry, if not the world, and was the prime driver of more than $20 million in advance sales when the show was announced," a production rep. told Forbes. “One outlet reported a single seat selling for over $11,700 on the secondary market.”
Jackman was upbeat in sharing the news of his positive test with fans, saying “Please stay safe, be healthy, be kind” and promising to get better “ASAP” so he can make it back to the stage.
