Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly one million vehicles worldwide due to concerns of possible brake failure.
The recall includes various models of the ML and GL-Class series, as well as their R-Class luxury crossovers sold from 2004 to 2015.
The recall affects a total of 993,407 vehicles, including more than 292,000 vehicles in the United States.
The company says problems with the power-braking mechanism could force the driver to put more pressure on the brake pedal to slow the vehicle, possibly creating a longer stopping distance and increasing the risk of a crash.
In rare cases, the issue could cause the brake system to stop functioning altogether.
Before the issue occurs, drivers might notice a change in the feel of the brake pedal or hissing/airflow noises when applying the brake pedal.
The automaker says it has received no reports of crashes, injuries or deaths related to the issue.
The company says it will need to inspect the potentially faulty parts to see if they need replacement, and is asking affected customers not to drive their vehicles until they can be inspected.
The automaker will contact owners whose vehicles may be affected.
