The pot continues to grow, as the Powerball jackpot has now surpassed $1 billion for only the third time in the game’s history, with Monday’s drawing going winnerless once again.

Monday’s winning numbers were 5, 8, 9, 17, 41, and red Powerball 21.

The last winner of the Powerball jackpot was more than three months ago, and now, the next winner will have a chance at winning one of the largest lottery jackpots ever.

Last year, the Powerball set a record with its $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot, the largest ever in the world. The previous record for the Powerball jackpot came in 2016 when the grand prize reached $1.586.

If someone is able to match all five numbers and the Powerball number on Wednesday night, they will have the choice of an annuitized prize that pays out a total of $1 billion over 30 years or a lump sum payment of an estimated $516.8 million, before taxes.

Five tickets did leave some players happy on Monday night, with tickets sold in Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, New York, and Pennsylvania matching all five white balls to win $1 million.

Three tickets in Arkansas, Georgia, and Texas won $2 million thanks to the Power Play option, the lottery shared.

Another lottery is also growing in size, as the Mega Millions lottery holds its drawing tonight at 11 p.m. EST for its $640 million jackpot. Mega Millions has also gone winnerless since April.

If you’re buying a ticket for Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot, be aware your odds of winning the $1 billion are 1 in 292.2 million.
