LOS ANGELES (AP) — Even though the 2020 election was almost two years ago, some aren't letting go. One person not giving up is former President Donald Trump, who shared on his social media site Truth Social on Monday that the election was "compromised," saying a "new election" must be held immediately.
In his demand for a new election, Trump referenced the recently released reports that the FBI requested Facebook be on the lookout for false reports possibly from Russia before the 2020 election.
The news of the suppressed stories came from Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg while he was a guest on the "Joe Rogan Experience."
Even though he never clearly stated the FBI specifically asked about the Hunter Biden laptop story, Trump and several others have claimed that's what it was all about.
"The FBI BURIED THE HUNTER BIDEN LAPTOP STORY BEFORE THE ELECTION knowing that, if they didn't, 'Trump would have easily won the 2020 Presidential Election,'" the former president wrote.
He continued saying he should be declared the winner of the election. But, if not, he said the "minimal solution" should be that they "declare the 2020 Election irreparably compromised and have a new Election, immediately!"
As for what the FBI did, Zuckerberg shared that they told some workers at Facebook that they "'should be on high alert. We thought there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. We have it on notice that basically there's about to be some kind of dump that's similar to that.'"
He continued saying the laptop story did "fit that pattern" the FBI had warned them about, and therefore it may have been suppressed.
Since the interview, the FBI has shared that they will contact businesses in the private sector to let them know of looming threats. However, it also said it "cannot ask, or direct, companies to take action on information received," NBC News reported.
Trump has been in the spotlight the last month following the Aug. 8 raid of his Mar-a-Lago estate for classified documents that may have resulted in him violating the espionage act.
He has also been outspoken about his social media platform, which is rumored to be having financial struggles.
According to some reports, the platform has roughly $1.6 million backdated payments owed to the internet infrastructure company RightForge, Axiosreported.
However, Trump has addressed the rumors on the site, saying that they are only attacks from "many of the big guns in Washington, D.C.
"They are going after the outside financial company, and virtually anybody that walks and breaths, but that won't do it," Trump wrote. "They said it is doing worse since the Raid, but actually it is doing MUCH better, up more than 550%. We all love TRUTH!!!"
