“Based on your consent, we may collect and use your biometric information for safety, security, and identification purposes.”
This line found in a new privacy policy by one of the world’s most popular social media apps is causing quite a bit of consternation to many who happened to notice it.
The privacy policy belongs to billionaire Elon Musk’s app X – formerly known as Twitter.
So far, neither the company nor Musk himself have offered any comment as to why that data might need to be collected, and the policy doesn’t explicitly state what the app might do with it.
Biometric data is just one thing the policy mentions perhaps collecting, along with “employment history, educational history, employment preferences, skills and abilities, job search activity and engagement.”
Though not explicitly stated as the reason, the changes do come amid a slew of legislation that would require social media apps to verify the age of their users, though without offering a specific method for that verification.
