
Los Angeles (KNX) - The widow of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, Vanessa Bryant, has accepted a settlement of $28.85 million from L.A. County in her lawsuit accusing some county employees of taking and sharing gruesome photos of her husband and daughter after they perished in a helicopter crash in January 2020.
Los Angeles County agreed to pay Bryant and three of her daughters nearly $30 million, according to a court filing on Tuesday. The settlement includes $15 million a jury awarded Vanessa Bryant in August and additional funds to resolve possible claims from her daughters.
Bryant's lawyer said in a statement, "Today marks the culmination of Mrs. Bryant's courageous battle to hold accountable those who engaged in this grotesque conduct."
On Jan. 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant who was 13, were in a helicopter along with seven other people when it crashed into a hill near Calabasas, California, killing all nine people on board.
Once Vanessa Bryant discovered L.A. County fire and sheriff's department employees shared photos of human remains from the crash, She opened a case for negligence and invasion of privacy.
During the trial, Bryant testified that she learned that a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy had shown photos of the crash at a bar from a Los Angeles Times report, which she said made the ordeal that much more traumatic.
