007-style getaway car with 'license plate flipper' used by burglars: police

IRVINE, Calif. (KNX) – Irvine Police Department called it "something out of (a) 007 movie."

Police said on Wednesday a resident reported a car that looked like the one believed to be involved in burglaries in the Orange County area.

Officers stopped the car near Harvard Avenue and Main Street when they noticed something on the back of the car.

“Officers discovered a device that would flip the vehicle's license plate with the push of a button and an elaborate gas siphoning device that transferred fuel directly into the vehicle's gas tank,” the department said.

Video posted on the department’s Instagram page shows the car’s license plate flipping over to a black plate.

That wasn’t the only discovery made. Officers said the car had burglary tools, stolen property and stolen identities.

As a result, policed arrested Yasmine Kambour, 37, and Chris Huynh, 44, both of Garden Grove, for suspicion of vehicle burglary, vehicle theft, identity theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools.

Also during the investigation, detectives found a car that had been stolen.
