On Tuesday just before 11 a.m., officers from the Petaluma Police Department were called to the 200 block of Windsor Dr. to check on a resident who had not been seen for several weeks. Neighbors told police approximately 20-30 packages were stacked on the porch and no one would answer the door.

Once inside, police found a woman dead in the living room and a second woman in a bedroom who claimed to be the deceased's daughter. According to authorities, the conditions of the home were inhabitable.

Police said it appeared that the mother had been dead for over a year. The daughter told authorities her mother had died of natural causes in April of 2021. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, police said.

Police have now opened an unattended death investigation into the unknown circumstances surrounding the woman's death.
