In recent months, a statewide cannabis enforcement task force seized over $109 million worth of illegal cannabis from unlicensed cultivators and dispensaries throughout California.
From April through June, 92 search warrants were served, over 66,000 pounds of cannabis was seized and nearly 121,000 plants were eradicated. This marks a 104% increase from the first three months of the year, when $52 million worth of cannabis was seized.
The Unified Cannabis Enforcement Taskforce, which was created in 2022, targets illegal operations in an effort to bolster the legal cannabis market, Assistant Chief Frank Imbrie said.
“We’re doing our best on the back end to eliminate the illicit side so that they can get propped up and have a better market themselves to increase financially and help out the state of California,” he told KNX News’ Margaret Carrero.
In May, the agency conducted a massive bust in Kern, Tulare, and Kings counties, seizing over $42 million worth of cannabis from 52 illicit cultivation sites in the span of two days.
