Video: CHP rescues 2 people and a dog trapped for 2 months in snowed-in Sierra cabin

The California Highway Patrol sent in a helicopter to rescue two people and a dog that had been snowed in their cabin for the last two months earlier this week, according to a post by the agency on Facebook.

CHP was called in on Tuesday by the Sierra County Sheriff's Office to provide assistance for a couple and their dog that had been trapped in their cabin since Dec. 6.

According to a statement issued by the sheriff's office, the couple called in around 10:30 a.m. and said they were taking care of a property in northwestern Sierra County but hadn't been able to leave in weeks, and supplies were running out.

A helicopter was used due to the remote location, and several roads leading to the area were blocked off, the post read. Despite strong winds, the helicopter was able to land safely near the cabin.

The helicopter flew the couple to a safe area south of Downieville and were taken to the sheriff's office.

The couple was then picked up by friends from the sheriff's office.
