Diamond Bar man dies in snorkeling accident in Hawaii

KAANAPALI, Hawaii (KNX) – A California man died in a snorkeling accident in Hawaii Monday night.

Law enforcement identified the victim as 45-year-old Tommy Cheng of Diamond Bar, according to Hawaii News Now.

Maui Fire Department responded to in the 2600 block of the Kaanapali Parkway after 5 p.m. to find bystanders had pulled Cheng out of the water, KITV reported.

Officials said his body did not show any signs of “serious trauma.”

Witnesses told emergency crews that he was “face down in the water” on the norta area of Black Rock and that his body was pulled out by bystanders on to the rocks.

This comes months after The Maui News reported a 52-year-old Palm Desert man drowned in the Black Rock area.
