SANTA ANA (CNS) - A 37-year-old man was sentenced Monday to 25 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting a disabled 87-year-old Garden Grove woman in her bed.
Julio Ignacio Centenomiranda was convicted Oct. 13 of assault with intent to commit a sex offense in a first-degree burglary and forcible oral copulation, both felonies. Jurors also found true sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury in the commission of a sex crime.
Police were called at 1:36 a.m., June 28, 2019, to a home in the 8800 block of Lampson Avenue, near Magnolia Street, regarding a sexual assault in progress, Garden Grove police said.
The victim, who was unable to yell for help, was being assaulted by the suspect when her granddaughter was roused by noise in the bedroom and went to investigate, police said.
The granddaughter grabbed the suspect by an arm and yanked him away as she shouted for help, police said. That woke up the rest of the family, who came to help and got into a fight with the suspect that spilled out into the backyard, police said.
When officers arrived, the family was holding down the suspect, police said.
