During the pursuit, the suspects opened fire on California Highway Patrol and Inyo County Sheriff's patrol cars, according to the Nye County Sheriff's Office. No officers were injured.

The pursuit began near the desert community of Tecopa in Inyo County, about 90 minutes west of Las Vegas, after police received a report of multiple shots fired, NBC News reported. The suspects initially led police south to Baker before they turned around and went back the way they came, according to the report.

"I'm not exactly sure of the pattern," Nye County Sheriff's Capt. David Boruchowitz told NBC. "I know there was pursuit in Inyo County that went to Baker and then he turned around and was pursued back."

The suspects made it to Pahrump, Nevada in Nye County, just across the state line, where they were stopped by a roadblock involving a SWAT team at around 1 a.m., NBC reported.

At the roadblock, police said an officer involved shooting took place, during which both suspects were injured. They were arrested and transported to the hospital in stable condition. The suspects were identified in reports only as a man and a woman.

The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Inyo County Sheriff's office and Nye County Sheriff's Office.
