CORNING, Calif. (KNX) – A Corning man was arrested after police said he threw a Molotov cocktail toward a police officer.
The Corning Police Department said it started when officers were investigating a loud banging noise coming from outside the department's building Wednesday night.
Officers saw Cassidy Russ, 32, walking away from the building and “was fumbling with an item near the front of his waistband.” When an officer tried to stop Russ, Russ lit a Molotov cocktail and threw it in the direction of the officer.
“The Molotov cocktail missed the officer and exploded near a parked vehicle,” the department said.
Officers chased Russ before tackling him to the ground. He was arrested and booked into jail. His bond was set at $1 million.
The fire from the Molotov cocktail was extinguished. There were no reported injuries.
Police said this isn’t the first Russ threw Molotov cocktail at officers. He’s accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail near the department’s staging area for marked patrol vehicles in July.
