Conservative radio personality Larry Elder, who leads among Republican candidates vying to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom in California's recall election, promoted a socially conservative education agenda on Sunday.

The candidate was visiting a Placer County megachurch when he was asked by pastor Greg Fairrington whether he supported the "pornographic" inclusion of sex education in school curricula.

Elder replied that sex education "has no role in schools at all."

During the Sunday campaign stop, Elder expressed other far-right views on social issues, including restroom usage by transgender Californians.

"You ought not be able to wake up one day and think you are female and use a female bathroom,” Elder said.

Speaking to congregants, Elder also professed that he was "one hundred percent pro-life" on the issue of abortion.

"I'm not running on the issue of abortion, but I'm asked that a lot because they’re trying to find something that scares people," he added.

According to The Sacramento Bee, Elder received the endorsement of prominent anti-abortion activist Lila Rose after she received promises from the candidate that he intended to cut funding for abortion-related services.

Elder's pronouncements on sex education run contrary to California law. Schools in the state are required to provide comprehensive sexual health education in middle and high school.
