Police temporarily locked down Turlock High School in central California Friday morning after one student stabbed another student, school officials said.

Administrators said an altercation occurred on campus between two students, in a post to the Stanislaus County school’s Facebook page. The announcement said one of the children had been “stabbed with a knife.”

“The responsible party is in custody and the victim is being transported by emergency responders to the hospital,” administrators said. The victim was reported to be in stable condition as of early Friday evening.

Unconfirmed video shared to social media showed the suspected stabbing and the apparent victim covered in blood. The stabbing appeared to take place outside.

According to Sgt. Michael Parmley, a spokesperson for the Turlock Police Department, the alleged attacker was treated for a hand innjury before being booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall.

Turlock police recovered a knife from the scene and were investigating a motive for the alleged attack. Parmley said late Friday morning there were no other suspects of interest in the altercation, and that those involved would not be identified due to their minor status.

Officials lifted the school lockdown at 10:30 a.m. and said classes would continue as scheduled.
