SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – A student at a Santa Rosa high school has died after a violent fight, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.

Just after 11 a.m. Wednesday, officers were notified of a fight at Montgomery High School on Hahman Drive.

Three boys were involved in the fight in an art room — one was stabbed in the hand while another was stabbed multiple times in the upper body, police said. He later died in the hospital. Numerous police responded to the scene, but the suspect fled. He was arrested off campus.

"Two juniors entered the classroom, they weren't students in this particular classroom, it was an art classroom, they entered the classroom and engaged in a physical altercation with a student who was in the classroom, that was a freshman student. All three of them were male students," said Santa Rosa Police Chief John Cregan. "The student who was in the classroom produced a knife. The knife was described as a folding knife with a black handle. It had a blade of approximately four to five inches."

Several other schools in the area were placed under lockdown following the incident, but those lockdowns have since been lifted. Police said there is no active threat to students or staff. All classes at Montgomery High School have been canceled for the remainder of the day.

One student told KCBS Radio that there are fights almost every day at Montgomery, some which are gang related some which are not.

Parents said they're shocked, but they're not surprised due to the level of violence across the United States.
