Texas-native Matthew McConaughey has many titles to his credit including professor of practice (at the University of Texas-Austin), and Academy award winner, but what about politician or even Governor?
Promoting his new book "Green Lights", McConaughey recently appeared on "The Hugh Hewitt Show" and the conversation ventured into politics.
"I don’t know. I mean, that wouldn’t be up to me," McConaughey said when asked if he would ever run for office. "It would be up to the people more than it would me."
The 51-year-old actor went on to explain: "I would say this. Look, politics seems to be a broken business to me right now. And when politics redefines its purpose, I could be a hell of a lot more interested."
In another interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, McConaughey said that while he has no plans of throwing his hat into the political ring 'right now', he would consider some possible 'leadership roles' in the future.
May Texans who know and love McConaughey think him taking a leadership role in the Lone Star state would be 'Alright, alright, alright.'
"I've been asked that question about whether I was going to run for Governor (of Texas) quite a lot lately and I've always given the same answer. Evidently one of them came out as "I would consider it" because I didn't say absolutely no" said McConaughey.
When Colbert pressed him on whether he would consider a political career over his acting career McConaughey said: '[I would consider] whatever role I can be most useful in and I don't know that that's politics."
By the way, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is up for re-election in 2022.
