DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Texas Rangers will honor two of their most important figures this summer when they induct them into the club's Hall of Fame.
Future Hall of Fame third baseman Adrian Beltre and public address announcer Chuck Morgan will become the 23rd and 24th members of the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame.
Beltre and Morgan will be inducted in a ceremony prior to the Rangers game vs the Oakland A's at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14.
Beltre, who spent eight years with the Rangers, retired from baseball on Nov. 20 after a stellar 21-year career in MLB. He ranks among the all-time leaders in doubles (11th, 636), games (14th, 2933), total bases (14th, 5309), extra-base hits (14th, 1151), hits (16th, 3166), RBI (25th, 1707), and home runs (31st, 477) and has the second most career hits of any non-U.S. native in history behind Albert Pujols. The only other players ever with at least 3166 hits and 477 home runs are Hank Aaron, Pujols, Willie Mays, and Eddie Murray.
In his time with the Rangers, Beltre hit .304 with 199 home runs and 699 RBI in 1098 games. During that span, he won three Rawlings Gold Glove awards, earned two Silver Slugger Awards, and was named to three All-Star teams.
Morgan has been the Rangers public address announcer for 38 of his 39 years in Major League Baseball. He began his career with the organization in 1983 at Arlington Stadium. He worked as the in-park voice of the Kansas City Royals for the 2002 season before returning to the Rangers the following season.
Morgan has been the public address announcer for 3,038 straight games. And while no official records are kept, the Rangers say "there is no doubt this is the longest consecutive games streak among current MLB public address announcers. Dan Baker, who is in his 50th year doing PA for the Philadelphia Phillies, has missed games along the way. All-time numbers are inconclusive, but it is believed that Chicago Cubs legendary Wrigley Field announcer Pat Pieper did every home game from 1924 until his death in 1974."
