Flood of new advertisers to make Super Bowl debut

The commercials within the broadcast of Super Bowl LV will feature none of the usual fare from longtime advertisers including Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Budweiser and Avocados from Mexico.

For various reasons associated with the pandemic, those heavy hitters decided to sit the big game out this year.

In their place, at least 20 new advertisers are paying $5.5 million a pop for the privilege of airing their 30-second spots inside the game.

Among this year's first-timers: Chipotle, DoorDash, UberEats and Scotts Miracle-Gro.

Dr. Abhi Biswas, clinical professor of marketing, Naveen Jindal School of Management, UT-Dallas, is an expert on Super Bowl advertising. He discussed the challenges and potential benefits of making that big investment in the COVID-19 era, and also listed some of his favorite commercials to watch for, as he talked with KRLD's Chris Sommer.
