The Fort Worth City Council has voted to rename a one-mile stretch of White Settlement Road to Westside Drive, a change tied to the upcoming $1.7 billion Westside Village mixed-use development.

The decision came during a Tuesday meeting after weeks of debate over whether the existing name should remain due to its historical ties to the neighboring city of White Settlement.

City officials said the change affects the portion of the roadway running through the new development area, where construction is already underway on offices, apartments, retail space, and entertainment venues.

Supporters said the new name better aligns with the project’s branding and will help market the district to investors and visitors.

Opponents argued the change could erase part of the area’s history and create confusion for nearby businesses and residents, who may face costs related to new signage and address updates.

The vote clears the way for the city to begin updating maps, street signs, and public safety databases before the Westside Village project’s next construction phase.
