Three Rowlett High School students face charges of aggravated assault after a fight that involved a gun on campus Friday, police say.

The fight happened just before 11 a.m. Friday when one student reported he was assaulted by "multiple" people, one of whom "displayed a handgun," Rowlett police said. The student who was assaulted told police another student struck him with the handgun.

The school was placed on "Secure & Hold" for more than three hours while authorities searched the campus. The investigation led to the recovery of a "concealed, loaded handgun in the high school."

The school district said it has a zero-tolerance weapon policy, and the students are not allowed to come back on campus. Garland ISD also put out a reminder to students and families that they can download the Anonymous Alerts app on their phones to report anything suspicious or of concern.

The district said it encouraged them to call 911 or contact Garland ISD's 24-hour security dispatch at 972-494-8911 any time to make a report.
