A long-abandoned Fort Worth school has gone up in flames.
The Vickery School on the historic South Side burned furiously Tuesday evening. Fort Worth firefighters worked in the oppressive heat to knock down the flames in the century-old building on Vickery near Highway 287.
The structure is heavily damaged but no injuries have been reported.
The building was closed as a school nearly 40 years ago. For a while it became a nightclub, but that was closed decades ago and the building has been vacant ever since.
In recent years it has frequently been used by the homeless and numerous fires have erupted there.
Officials will be investigating to find the cause of the fire.
