In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.

KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.

Tera is an adorable 5-year-old shepherd mix looking for a loving family to start the new year with! I am all about new beginnings. I recently completed my heartworm treatment, so I will need a calmer environment that I can stay relaxed in while I am recovering. Once my recovery time is over though, I will be back to doing zoomies in no time!

Meet Broccoli!

Meet Broccoli! He is an energetic little rascal looking for a forever home with the SPCA of Texas. Broccoli is a Chihuahua mix who is just shy of his second birthday. He weighs in at a healthy 15 pounds. The first thing he wants you to know is that despite his name, he is not a vegetarian. He is loads of fun for those who enjoy zippy little pooches. He came from an animal cruelty case in Ellis County, so he can be a little wary at first. It’s also advisable for him to go to a home with all children over the age of 12. He is at the SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary to meet him.

Meet Scarlett!

Meet Scarlett! She is a dainty but energetic little lady available for adoption from the SPCA of Texas. Scarlett is a Labrador Retriever mix who nudges the scales at just over 25 pounds. She is now approaching her 11th birthday, but she can still get out and scamper with the younger pups a good bit. As an older dog, she is available for adoption with a medical consideration to address some age-related issues. Scarlett came to the SPCA of Texas from a hoarding seizure in Hunt County back in May. She’s done well in her journey since, and is currently in foster care so an appointment is necessary to meet her.

Meet Henry!

Meet Henry! Henry is actually one of the newest guests at the SPCA of Texas, but he is an older dog who needs to get into a foster or foster-to-adopt arrangement soon. Henry is a 50-pound Basset Hound/Retriever mix who has been a good doggie in every respect, but his owner who had raised him from a puppy became very ill and could no longer care for him. He is used to other dogs, though he prefers the calmer ones since he is well past his silly puppy days. Henry is good for a stroll or some light yard-romping. He’s also good at just chilling out and being good company. Call the foster team and ask about Henry today.

Meet Muffin and Peanut!

Meet Muffin and Peanut! These are a pair of cat bros who came to the SPCA of Texas together, and really need to leave that way. Muffin is a gray and white domestic shorthair with a very thick coat of fur. He is FIV-positive, which is a manageable condition but means the two should be the only cats in the home. Peanut is also a Domestic Shorthair mix, but he has a black coat of fur with a bit of white on the underside. The two were rescued as strays and have turned out to be remarkably friendly with staff members. They are staying in the cat rotunda at the Dallas Animal Care Center so no appointment is necessary to meet them.

KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster, and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.

Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
