In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, Newsradio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlight the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.
Meet Brooklyn, our featured pet pal!
UPDATE: Brooklyn has been adopted!

Meet Adora!
UPDATE: Adora has been adopted!

Clearly the name is an abbreviation of “adorable.” This female pooch is exactly what her name insinuates. She is just over 2 years of age and is looking for a forever home for the long haul. She is a mixed breed dog, and at 44 pounds is right on the crossover point between what is considered medium or large.
She has tan fur on the back with a white underside, and “smudged mascara” highlights around her gorgeous puppy dog eyes.
She was brought to the SPCA of Dallas as a stray from the unincorporated areas of Dallas County. She can be somewhat shy on first meeting, but once she knows you are good people she warms up pretty quickly. Treats go a long way in establishing “good people” status. Once comfortable, Adora becomes her naturally adorable and playful little self.
Meet Freeway!

He is an American Blue Heeler mix available for adoption from the SPCA of Texas. Freeway is just under 2 years of age and weighs in at 51 pounds. He has white, speckled fur with big black patches and a cute little tan mask around his eyes. His perky ears snap to attention as he explores his surroundings and takes in the goings-on of the doggie play yards at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center.
Freeway came to the SPCA of Texas as an animal cruelty seizure in Van Zandt County. It has taken him a little bit of time to regain his trust in humans, but now gets excited when the leash comes out, because he knows he gets to go outside! Freeway is ready to try his luck at a new forever home with a loving family. He’d be even more excited if there was another dog involved.
Meet Leon!
UPDATE: Leon has been adopted!

Leon is 3-and-a-half years old and covered with an attractive and unusual coat of dappled brown and black fur. He’s a medium-sized dog at 43 pounds. He has friendly little puppy dog eyes to match his wide smile, and he is an expert in the art of wiggling. Toys and treats are an easy way to win his heart, and he puts both to good use with great fervor.
Leon came to the SPCA of Texas back in January, after being found wandering alone in Ellis County. At first he wasn’t too sure about the whole “hanging out with humans” thing, but over time he has really come to shine. Leon is currently housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so an advanced appointment is necessary to meet him.
Meet Willow!
UPDATE: Willow has been adopted!

She is an adorable little Domestic Shorthair mix kitty looking for a forever home with the SPCA of Texas. She has soft fur that changes color from gray to tan to white as if colored by the brush strokes of an artist. She is approaching 4 years of age and weighs a healthy 9 pounds. Willow is a sweet and snuggly little cat, which is heartwarming when you learn that she was rescued from a bad situation by the SPCA of Texas.
She wants a new start in a home where she will get the love and care that a great cat deserves. Willow would prefer to meet with any children under the age of 12 before committing to a new home with them. She would also love to be taken in by a family that already has a cat in place to help her learn the ropes. She is patiently waiting at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas.
Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
