In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, Newsradio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlight the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.
Meet Maggie, our featured Pet Pal!
UPDATE: Maggie has been adopted and is now in a forever home!

Maggie is a six-year-old Pyrenees-mix, weighing at about 61 lbs. She's great with kids, especially those that are older. Maggie is also very friendly towards other dogs. Feel free to bring your entire family to meet Maggie and figure out if she's a great match. Maggie is also very well-mannered and very loving. She will be a perfect cuddly addition for the winter!
Meet Cav!
UPDATE: Cav has been adopted!

He is a beautiful and intelligent Labrador Retriever mix. He’s right at the border between a medium and large dog at 44 pounds. He has white fur all over, but with a cute black wrap that covers his ears, extending around his head and one of his eyes. He’s got a little black patch on his backside too. Cav is a good dog with a lot of potential. Unfortunately, he came to the SPCA of Texas from an animal cruelty case and was not treated very well at all. As a result, he is still nervous around new people for the first time. He is not yet comfortable walking on a leash, so it would be great for him to find a home with a securely fenced backyard. Cav is housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center so a prior appointment is necessary to meet him. He is also available under a foster-to-adopt program.
Meet Chris

He is a Shepherd mix of 3 years and 9 months in age. Chris is covered by black, tan and white fur, and has an infectious lopsided grin. Chris became very popular with the Behavior staff at the rescue center as he was able to help calm down new fearful dogs coming into the shelter. This was extremely helpful and inspiring as Chris originally came into the shelter as a stray himself. Since that time, he has moved up to the main adoption floor at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Rescue Center and is hoping for a forever home of his own. Chris would love a securely fenced backyard as he is quite an athletic fellow. Chris would prefer to be adopted into a home where all the kids are at least 12 years of age. As has been noted, he is very good with other dogs and would be a great second pet.
Meet Jupiter

This dog is a whole galaxy full of fun! Jupiter is a Boxer mix who is 2-and-a-half years old and weighs 59 pounds. She is a chill, easy-going dog who just wants to find a good family who will give her all the loves and pets she needs. Jupiter is an easy fit into a new home as she is already housebroken and up on her manners. Jupiter was first brought into the shelter as a stray and then adopted out. She came back as an alumni surrender when her adopter had a new baby on the way. Jupiter has had some trouble with one of her legs and is currently under medical care. She is available for adoption but will need to continue her medication and be sure to get plenty of rest until she is back up to speed. Jupiter seems to do well with other dogs too. She is housed at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center.
Meet Lorie

Anyone looking for an older cat who hasn’t lost a full head of steam might consider adopting Lorie. She is a Domestic Shorthair mix with tons of energy and enthusiasm. She is 4-and-a-half years old and weighs in at 13 pounds. Her previous foster said Lorie kept her full of laughter with her playful antics. She is a big fan of wand toys and chasing small balls around. Lorie is a little on the shy side at first though, so she will need to go to a family who will give her some time and space to come out of her shell before the comedy show begins. Lorie would prefer to go to a home where all the kids are respectful of her space and at least 12 years of age. Lorie is currently housed in the cat rotunda at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas.
KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older.
